Whoop Case

First proto of the whoop case

Whoop Case

I often find myself throwing drones in old cardboard boxes, ziplock bags, milk crates, or sometimes just straight into my backpack while I go out flying. This often leads to loosing batteries deep into the crevasse of my backpack and forgetting my spare parts when I need them the most. I designed this box to carry two Tiny Whoop FPV drones, batteries, and other accoutrements needed for a day out.

Why Two Drones?

Part of flying is crashing… and part of crashing is breaking your toys. I almost never leave the house on a flying trip without at least two quads in my pack. That way while im at a spot or in the queue for a race, I don’t have to whip out my toolkit to do some last minute soldering. (as fun as soldering under the light of a few phone cameras can be, I prefer to do it at home)

The Case:

Each drone compartment has ample space for any 65mm quad. I found that most existing designs either wont fit some chunkier drone models, or they have a ton of wasted space and are a real pain to fit in my backpack. Along side each drone compartment are two storage compartments. Each compartment fits one of two inserts I have designed.

The first insert holds 8 batteries. With 8 batteries you can max out the charge ports on a WhoopStor Charger while you have the other two packs in the air. I find having at least 7 batteries with you and cycling them into the charger as you fly insures you never are stuck waiting on one to charge.

The second insert holds three storage bin. Each bin has a small flange that allows it to stack seamlessly with the one below it. keeping them secure when you are pulling them in and out of the case. The top bin has a press fit lid, as well as a center divider to sort you screws and small parts.

To get the bins in and out of the case without having to flip it upside down and risk spilling all you parts, I have designed a little handle that folds out after you open the box, and lets you lift all of the boxes out at once. It has a boss on the bottom that locks it in place with the lower bin, so you wont drop them while moving them around. With the bins situated in the case, and the handle folded down in its storage configuration, it matches the height of the case precisely so they don’t slide around inside of the case.

The lid has a nice tight fit. not so tight you cant put it on and off easily, but tight enough its not going to fall off in your backpack. The layer lines help it lock in place. There is a small pinhole in the corner that lets air in or out so you press it on and off easily.

75mm Whoops?:
I plan on designing a larger version of this case for 75mm whoops and batteries. I will post the files here and on printables.

I have published all the files online for free on printables incase anyone else wants this case. You can find it here:
